The Point of Balance

There comes a moment in every visual project when a choice has to be made: whether to add or to remove, and CNTL is born precisely from this decision—to remove what is unnecessary in order to arrive at an essential sign, capable of carrying the entire system on its own.
In the world of wine, often rich in decorative elements, symbolic references, and layered visual narratives, we felt the need to step back, to reduce in order to clarify, to simplify in order to strengthen identity, seeking a language that would not be descriptive but immediate, almost instinctive.

From this intention comes the vertical line that runs through every CNTL label—a simple, clean, central line that might at first appear as a minimal graphic detail, but in reality represents the core of the entire project, the point around which everything is structured and finds its balance.

This approach naturally aligns, in a subtle and non-literal way, with a certain strand of post-war art, particularly the work of Barnett Newman, an artist who pursued a radical reduction of painting through large fields of color intersected by thin vertical lines—his so-called “zips”—which were not decorative elements, but presences capable of activating space, giving it rhythm, tension, and identity.

In a similar way, the CNTL line is not intended to divide or separate, but to hold things together, becoming a constant element that runs across the entire range of wines, maintaining a strong visual coherence while changing color—and therefore personality—adapting to each label without ever losing its role. The central line is not a decoration. It is the point of balance. It is what holds everything together: the wines, the differences, the choices. It changes color, but never its role. It is our way of expressing control—not as rigidity, but as the ability to hold things together.

CNTL is therefore not simply a graphic element applied to a label, but a visual and conceptual system that can extend beyond the bottle, becoming language, rhythm, and a recognizable sign across space and communication.
Because, in the end, the strongest identity is not the one that imposes itself through complexity, but the one that can be recognized through a simple, clear gesture—one that feels almost inevitable.
